The need is greater than ever this Christmas
Each Christmas we choose a charity that’s close to our hearts and make a donation to help fund their latest projects. With our two daughters now active members of the local Beavers and Cubs groups, we’ve learnt a lot about the Christchurch Food Bank recently due to the support given by Scouts to this charity.
As reported in the Bournemouth Echo last week, this Christmas looks set to be the busiest on record for the Christchurch Food Bank. Last December they fed 587 mouths, which they expect to be 50% higher this Christmas. So every little helps.
The Christchurch Food Bank is best known for providing 3 days’ worth of free food to those in emergency need. Recipients of these food parcels, over 700 of which were handed out in 2017, must present a food parcel voucher, which they can be given by over 30 different organisations, from schools, to social services, to churches.
The Christchurch Food Bank has a big vision.
They have become a Food Bank Plus, meaning they plan to support someone in desperate need from their first food parcel along their personal journey to becoming self sufficient. This includes helping to find them a place to live, furnish it with items donated to Food Bank Plus, and even lend someone a suit for a job interview.
Kathy went along to their AGM recently where the team told us about one of their client’s stories. It was so heart-warming to read about how life-changing the support provided was for this chap. Someone who had found himself on the streets due to the breakup of his marriage and had never envisaged needing the support of a charity like the Christchurch Food Bank.
Whilst our clients are following a very different journey, our approach is to support each and every one through their personal journey into and through retirement, so we understand what they’re trying to achieve. And we want to support them.
We hope to present them with our cheque next week.
