Thousands of people are complaining about the government’s proposals for an increase in the inheritance tax threshold that excludes people without children, says the Sunday Times.

From 2017 the ‘family home allowance’ of £100,000, that will rise to £175,000 by 2020, will only apply to those people who leave their property to children or grandchildren. This is said to be unfair for those 1.2 million childless couples (statistic from 2012) who are planning to leave their estate to other family members such as nieces and nephews.

There has been a lot of controversy over the new scheme and hope by many that it will be adjusted by 2017.
